EvanTell WordPress to Squarespace Website Migration
EvanTell came to Accordus for a website migration and rebuild.
The organization’s existing WordPress website contained a large amount of ministry content, including training pages, live events, resources, blog posts, authors, categories, tags, and SEO metadata. The project also introduced new branding that needed to be carried consistently across the rebuilt site.
Accordus assigned the website work to Desmond, who completed the project as an independent contractor for the agency. Desmond led the migration, information architecture, Squarespace build, custom development, SEO transfer, link cleanup, and implementation of the branding created by Accordus.
Establishing the Website’s New Structure
The project began with a meeting between Desmond, a senior team lead at Accordus, and EvanTell’s founder. Together, they established the foundation of the new website and the direction the project needed to take. From there, Desmond was given the creative freedom to determine how that direction would work within Squarespace.
Migrating the existing sitemap directly from WordPress would not have produced the right structure for the new site. EvanTell had a large collection of training programs, ministry resources, organizational information, and regularly published content. Desmond reorganized the sitemap so visitors could move through those areas more clearly while preserving the content that needed to remain available.
The revised structure accounted for:
First steps, courses, live events, and online workshops
Organizational information and beliefs
Evangelism resources, apps, videos, and study materials
Topic-based resource collections
Individual training programs
The complete EvanTell blog
Contact and donation pathways
Building the Website in Stages
Rather than rebuilding every page at once, Desmond organized the project into reviewable stages.
The homepage came first. It established how Accordus’s new branding would translate into the Squarespace website, including typography, colors, spacing, imagery, content hierarchy, and reusable design treatments. Once the homepage was approved, it became the visual foundation for the rest of the site.
Desmond then built the core pages, including the About, Contact, and Donate areas. After those pages were reviewed and approved, he moved into EvanTell’s larger training and resource sections.
These pages were built systematically so related content shared a consistent structure while still supporting the needs of each program. This approach made it possible to work through a large website in organized groups without losing consistency between sections.
Rebuilding a Large Training and Resource Library
EvanTell’s website contains far more than standard organizational pages. Its resources include evangelism courses, live training opportunities, online workshops, videos, applications, study materials, topic-based guidance, and individual training programs.
Desmond rebuilt these areas in Squarespace and organized them within the revised sitemap. The finished navigation needed to accommodate several levels of related content, but Squarespace does not natively support the nested navigation structure required for the project.
Custom code was used to create the additional navigation levels and connect visitors with the appropriate training and resource pages. This allowed the final site to retain the depth of EvanTell’s content while operating within Squarespace.
Migrating the EvanTell Blog
The final major phase was migrating EvanTell’s complete blog from WordPress to Squarespace.
This involved more than transferring the visible article text. Desmond personally migrated the posts along with their authors, tags, categories, images, and SEO metadata. Existing URLs were preserved or redirected as needed, and broken links were identified and corrected during the process.
Careful handling of this information was necessary to retain the organization of the blog and reduce disruption caused by the platform change. The completed Squarespace blog continues to support EvanTell’s established publishing structure and its collection of evangelism articles, ministry guidance, devotionals, and organizational updates.
Implementing the New Brand in Squarespace
Accordus created the new branding for EvanTell, and Desmond was responsible for implementing it throughout the website.
That required extensive custom CSS to reproduce the intended visual system within Squarespace. The styling went beyond standard site settings and addressed page layouts, typography, navigation, buttons, content cards, spacing, and repeated components across the site.
Custom code was also required for statistics sections and the nested navigation folders. These additions allowed the site to meet project requirements that were not available through Squarespace’s native controls alone.
Completing the WordPress-to-Squarespace Migration
The finished EvanTell website brings its organizational pages, training programs, ministry resources, live events, and blog into one Squarespace installation.
The project included:
A revised sitemap and content structure
A complete Squarespace website build
Implementation of Accordus’s new branding
Core organizational, contact, and donation pages
Training, course, event, and resource pages
A complete WordPress blog migration
Preservation of authors, tags, categories, images, and SEO metadata
URL preservation and redirects
Broken-link corrections
Custom statistics sections
Custom nested navigation
Extensive CSS and sitewide styling
This project was completed by Desmond as an independent contractor for Accordus. EvanTell was an Accordus client, and the website correctly credits Accordus for its development. See how the completed migration, reorganized content, custom navigation, and new brand styling come together on the finished EvanTell website.
